Read the article above.  How we relay a message matters.  Context is everything.  This is why you are being asked to understand how context can influence you as a reader.  

“Issues such as health care, poverty and discrimination all should elicit compassion,” Oliver says. “But presenting these issues as personalized stories more effectively evokes emotions that lead to greater caring, willingness to help and interest in obtaining more information.”

 Select 5 extracts to discuss.  An extract should be 40-80 lines.  For each extract, you should discuss the following:

How does the narrator's view influence the reader?
In this extract, what do we learn about the way the characters relate to one another?
How is a major theme from the work discussed in this extract?
What literary devices are used in this extract?
How does this extract help us to understand Hurston's writing style bettter?
