‘Like’ Cartoon
ReplyDeleteI think that the important things to understand is how addicted to social networks we become. We are not only addicted but we also depend on it. As the cartoon shows we are not even able to communicate properly. The rabbit points out that Facebook is bringing down the level of intelligence of the users. It involves all of us, especially teenagers. The scary thing is that that we don’t actually realize what is happening to us
The author wants us to see what our life became and to what extent we become more stupid and actually go backward. We know that because of the dialog obviously illustrating the point made, that Facebook changes the way we communicate and therefore decreases our intellectual level.
It is understandable to us because we all know what Facebook is and we are familiar with the famous function “like”. Perhaps older people and someone who doesn’t use Facebook wouldn’t understand it.
The tone of the text is ironic and humorous we know that because the dog replays “like” what is exactly what “killing meaningful communication” is.
The perspective use is a cartoon what is supposed to make it more humors and easy for the reader to understand it. The author shows a typical example of (maybe slightly exaggerated) a Facebook user. On the other hand it is true. The perspective is achieved because we look at two figures from an outside point of view that is 3rd person. This creates the distance that helps to understand the idea.
Scapegoat
The thing to understand is the society’s attitude, people always look for someone to blame when something doesn’t go right and usually they pick on the defenseless and frail people who can’t defend themselves. This happens everywhere at school out on the street etc.
I think that author wants to realize that we don’t want to be a part of that crowd that just picked on one poor individual. We know that because this is what he decided to show- problems of the society. It also makes us realize that society as a whole is quite brainless.
In my opinion the text under the image makes it more understandable especially words like “scapegoat” indicate that Wayne is actually guiltless.
I think the tone of the text is resigned, it is mostly indicated by the inscription underneath the image, it does not contain any exclamation marks, it just inform us. It is not judgmental it simply says that this is the way things are.
I think that the perspective is pretty important since we are looking at the scene from behind Wayne’s arm. We also face the people blaming Wayne for something bad that happened. We have this feeling of an individual versus many.
1. First important thing to understand about this text is that now we live in a different society than we lived few years ago. It is important, because when we understand changing in time we can see full picture and analyze given situation in a better way.
ReplyDeleteSecond important thing is that language is changing and the picture is trying to capture it in a funny way. It is important because now we also use a different language. We have to make sure that we understand changes in language.
Third important thing to understand is that now everyone is on Facebook and we have to look from a different point on this picture than we would look few years ago. It is important because Facebook is something big and has to be noticed in works like this.
2. The author’s point is that language is changing, because when the world is becoming more modern language has to catch up. It causes the language to be more limited. It is proven by the reply “Like”.
3. We have to know something about Facebook to understand what the other animal is replying. We can understand this because we use Facebook every day or almost every day.
4. For me tone is sort of hopeless. It shows that one day people will lose skills to communicate. We will use simple words and will not be as eloquent as we might be now.
5. The reader is given a negative perspective of losing ability of communication. Author here achieves this by simple dialogue and the reply from one of the characters, “Like”. Author achieved this perspective to warn us about limitations that we are giving each other when we use slang or when we don’t use full sentences because they are too long.
1. People will always find a reason to blame you. It is important to understand because you can see that sometimes something just happens and there is no explanation.
Second thing to understand is that sometimes we don’t understand things happening around us. It is important because we can analyze this from different perspectives using our own experience.
Third thing is that people will follow mass. It is important to understand because sometimes we don’t think what we want to do; we do what others do because we don’t want to be judge. If mass of people does it then it is probably the “right” way.
2. The author’s point is that people like to follow someone and when we don’t find explanation for something we find the weirdest explanation. The prove is the text in the bottom of the image.
3. To understand this text you have to have some experience. You have to know what people do under pressure and how they behave when they cannot explain something in rational way.
4. The tone for me is very negative. The text used in the image suggests it. It shows that people are cruel and often they don’t think what they do.
5. The reader is provided with negative perspective. After reading, looking and thinking the reader has to understand what shouldn’t be done and why.

a) Communication and its purpose. Meaning of the commonly known "like" and other short cuts with wide range of meaning which is at the same time meaningful.
b) Importance and power of mass. Mass opinion, not necessary your own opinion. People follow other people if they are strong without thinking if they are right or not.
2. What is the author’s point? How do you know?
a) Modern communication tools makes our communication less meaningful. We are more and more undescriptive and our point of view is framed in the social network barriers.
b) You should always thing about your action. Sometimes people can hurt other people without a reason or with a reason that they have to hurt someone no matter who is it. Many times people don't think about consequences of their actions, or they think that they are not responsible for them since there are a lot of other people who do the same thing.
3. What are the circumstances (context) that make this text understandable?
a) Work like is easily recognizable with facebook. More and more people have accounts on facebook and we all share our news, interests or anything else.
b) There are a lot of protests in which people participate in large numbers. Sometimes people join protests because they don't know much about it but they think or were told that it will benefit them.
4. What is the tone of this text? How do you know?
a) The first one shows kind of hypnoses. Rabbits are talking but one of them is looking at the screen of the smartphone and the other one says like, what shows that he isn't free. They have the same faces what shows that both of them has been influenced by social networks.
b) It is clear that mr wayne doesn know much about things that happen. There are two sides. One is a protesting crowd, which is screaming and showing anger, and the second side is mr. wayne who comes to a window and looks like he doesn't really know what the protest is about.
5. What perspective (visual) is the reader provided with, and why and how did the author achieve that perspective?
a) Rabbits look the same, they have the same faces and dont show emotions. None of them is concentrating their look on anything. it all shows the hypnoses.
b) It is hard to know what is going on if you look only at the picture, but it is clear that both crow and mr wayne are leaving in some kind of crisis or in bad sad times.

• The size of the text doesn’t matter it still may have a deep meeting
• Many people don’t realize the influence technology has on us
• Communication is very crucial part of our lives and we need to make sure that we don’t lose it
2. The author’s point of you is that facebook is good to get in touch with people who are far away. However, it has a negative impact on meaningful communication, since there are many things which we are able to use instead of words.
3. Two friends are talking, the one brings up something that he is worrying about and the other friend by replying shows the reader why exactly it worries him and how it happens in real life.
4. The tone of this text is nervous and disappointed. We can see it from the short text and the way the characters look on the picture.
5. The reader is provided with an example what might happen if we won’t pay attention to the way we communicate with each other. It is shown throughout a situation which happened between two friends.

• When something happens, there is always has to be found to blame
• People don’t always have valid reasons for things they do, sometimes they just think it has to be that way
• To blame someone is much easier than to find out the entire situation
2. The author’s point of view is that people always find someone to blame even for their own mistakes. It is shown through the quote which goes with the picture.
3. The way picture was taken makes this text understandable, since we can see what is happening outside and what people saying, as well as we can see how Wayne is feeling about this all, but then the phrase under the picture sums up the point of this all.
4. The tone of this point is frustrated, sad, angry and worried. It is shown through the way people are acting outside (screaming and yelling something) and how Wayne just watching it from the window and not replying anything (being sad and worried).
5. The reader is provided with a situation which we can often observe in real life, instead of figuring out what happened and why, people just pick a “scapegoat” who they blame for all mistakes and they just refuse to try to find possible solutions.
