I think this piece of propaganda is very effective. It perfectly shows that people should have only some information, and this information should be positive only about one side. This piece of propaganda showed one enemy and who can win with this enemy. There was only one way of winning the war with the enemy. People while watching it had to understand, that peace and victory depend only on one side of the war. Also the way of using the pigs and wolf as characters make this piece of propaganda quite effective and convincing.
ReplyDeleteThe message that is intended is that only one country is good and can save the world. It shows that there is one enemy, and enemy has to be destroyed. The three pigs have common enemy and should fight together against the enemy, although they are not very connected, especially in the beginning. Even when the pigs work together they have one clear leader who will lead them to the victory. The two other pigs alone cannot do anything. The intention of the video is to show who is the bad one and which countries are weak. The video has to show that no matter what there is only one country that can save the world, and even if the “savior” does bad things still we consider this particular country as the best one and the only one who can save us from enemies.
According to this video a propaganda is a very powerful tool. Propaganda is something that can manipulate our opinion and make us think in a very particular way. Propaganda is something that has to make us think who is good and who is bad. Sometimes propaganda shows that some country is good, when it is not. According to this video propaganda shows only good things about one side, and only bad things about the enemy side. The video showed me that propaganda no matter what, will always do everything what is only possible to make one specific side look good. As we could see the “bad one” was the wolf, and wolf is always the bad character. Pigs are usually the weak and poor characters.
Through this video we could see a lot of propaganda and parody. I think it is very effective, mostly because most important and famous, greatest events were shown and these events were represented with a great exaggeration. Through the major tools like exaggeration and small writings on the planes or bottles through our the video (for example the USA vitamins) as well as the use of another language or the details like the mustache on the wolf and the uniform color made it obvious who it is in the history and what were the actions that can be considered wrong or can be argued.
ReplyDeleteWe can see an intended message more or less clearly in this video, the fact that we think of pigs being the good and positive side of this argument and wolf being as a negative side. BUT if we look at all this situation and compare, i don't think we can find much of the difference between these two sides after all, both of them used the same kind of weapons, both of them killed, both of them caused some kind of damage, both of them in the final count attacked and defended. The question that comes up is what is the difference between the two sides positive and negative?
As for in this video propaganda is something different, it is not much about against one or another product, person or material, it is more about the way that the information was given at that time. As I have already said that no one in between the public knew anything about the plans of the country and then eventually they end up attacking, instead of just protecting their country and suddenly changing their strategy and getting the secret weapon and is this kind of actions are any different to the one that was conducted by the wolf, going and breaking the piece treaty, bombing everything, having their arms next to the border or the fact how irresponsible that was for the pigs not to change anything and stay unarmed and not prepared when the troops and tanks are right there next to the border, plus the wolf has warned that he is planing to invade, to break the treaty. All these actions are being propagandized, it is being said that all of the actions were taken in the favor of one or not?
How effective is this piece of propaganda?
ReplyDeleteI think that this piece of propaganda is very effective since it looks like it designed for the most naive audience-children. Of course they are not going to understand the analogy top the WW II but it might affect them in a future, while studying about it. In order to fully understand the context you have to be familiar with the basic history facts. The author of this story used a lot of hyperboles and analogies. Many aspects had been significantly exaggerated and some skipped. Like for example how America was shown, as the one that prepared for the German invasion, but this is not true because the main reason for the America's safety was its politics of the isolation, USA was also out of the German reach due to its geography. According to this video Germany wasn't only defeated, it was humiliated what emphasized the US significance.For an uneducated person the conclusion drawn from this might be wrong since the video had oversimplified what had really happened.
What is the intended message of this video, and how do you know?
The intended message of this video was to exaggerate the America's significance an its importance in terms of solving the global issues. It is often said that US had decided to be the "helper for the global crisises" (Think about Iraque). We know that because it is an obvious analogy to WWII. France and Britain had been presented as cowards who sough aid in America. As I said before all of this was oversimplified.
According to THIS video, what is propaganda?
According to this video propaganda is a piece of very biased information that is readjusted for the needs. It is shown from one perspective and does not allow any subplots or other views to emerge. Only one clear conclusion can be drawn from that- Germany was humiliated and defeated, USA was the brave saver of the world and Germany and Britain were ignorant and naive pigs. From this video you can also see the oversimplification so an uneducated reader/viewer can easily understand it and interpret it. It is also a political tool (as it was shown in the video a metaphor for the political situation from 1939 to 1944).
I think that this piece of propaganda is really powerful. The main thing about it that it’s a cartoon for kids, so it means that children from the very beginning, from their childhood will consider who is good and who is bad, because the age of 3-7 is the period of time when humans character develops most of all. At this age they can’t find out more about the thing that they saw recently, so they just separate into good and bad- the U.S.A. and Germany.
ReplyDeleteThe intended message of this video is that Hitler is bad and citizens of the U.S.A are good. They try to protect themselves in different ways and they do well in it, because they have lots of weapons, which they demonstrate during the video. So the other thing about this cartoon it that through it American children may feel really powerful, because they know how to protect their houses and they won’t feel pity for destroying something as they are poor pigs according to this video.
In my opinion, according to this video the propaganda is when the government doesn’t control the media or even show it specially to provide the information about anything they want to and put it into heads of young’s to be sure about the future, to know that kids, who will grow up recently will obey the government. In this case they will stay patriotic to their country and even don’t try to accept the rules and rights of Germany. This piece is the analogy to the World War II.

ReplyDeleteThis video deals with propaganda in many ways. This video shows it by using sarcastic and funny ways of presenting the characters of the video. The creator od it wanted to show a negative character as a fool, so in this case the wolf who was representing Hitler was made fun of and he acted stupid so then his opponents (pigs) could easily act up on it. This video is not very serious from the first sight, it’s a cartoon so many people could not take it seriously, but actually there is a different meaning to the actions that take place in this cartoon and all the little signs and words that they say have a double meaning.
In my opinion the message of this video is not so clear therefore I think its not a very good propaganda video, people could take in different ways or not understand it at all. I think that the main focus of the video was to show how Nazism is bad. But over all I think this piece of propaganda is not very successful hence it is hard to understand.
I think this video is done is a form of a cartoon so everyone can understand it, kids and adults. Even though the theme is not for kids at all but it might be useful for kids to know that the war is bad.
As seen in the episode, the propaganda focuses on using the 3 little pigs story and changing it in a comedic way to portray the Second World War. Since this version of the 3 little pigs story didn’t show us what actually happened during the war (Other than showing that Hitler was taking over), the creator just wanted to show who was responsible for starting the war, and since the 3 little pigs is a kids story, he/she wanted to make it comedic so that the audience does not need to fell tension, but just to have a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteI think that the intended message in this video is that propaganda can not only be show in a harsh way, but also in a comedic way using different kids stories that are quite common. In the original story, the wolf is the antagonist of the story, so using Hitler, the creator of this episode in a way recreated the original story a bit using propaganda, and did a good job keeping the story entertaining, and at the same time sticking to the point of propaganda. This way, since we know what happens in the story it self, propaganda can slightly change the story a bit, but the ending it self will remain either the same, or just similar.
To be able to retell everything that happened during the Second World War, you could probably write a whole book about it. With propaganda, everything is focused on the main points and keeping everything simple so that it does not end up turning into a history video that just talks about what happened during the war. So this is what propaganda is according to the video, that the Second World War can be shown in almost any way by just simply changing the characters of the story, and also change the plot slightly.

ReplyDeleteOf course this propaganda shows us strength of USA. Pigs are not willing to fight at first; they believe that Wolf won’t attack them, though one of them is preparing for war. This cartoon shows many elements of war. All they are partly true or not. Everything depends on what you were taught in school. When the “war” begins, pigs quickly run away and hide. They are immediately prepared for war. They have weapons and bunkers. Cartoon shows some funny scenes with wolf being blown up or shot. At first pigs seems to be surprised by war and not willing to participate in it but after a while, they use their weapons and war vehicles. I think this is what propaganda tries to show us. They didn’t want to fight thought they had to. There are these defense bonds bombs lunched from the secret weapon. And here is the part where I am confused. This propaganda is tending to show that USA didn’t want participate in war and was only defensing or it was actually testing weapons which they have made. This is the hard part because both options seem true. I also think that actually they are both true and a part of this propaganda. This propaganda might contain two messages. Maybe this is what it does. According to this video we can’t really tell what propagated is at least no one that was used while WWII. Those are the ones which I’m the most familiar with. We discussed them on history lessons and other lessons as well. And the cartoon doesn’t show the same kind of propaganda. However, according to this cartoon, propaganda is an intended message shown in a funny way. Propagandas from WWII were also using funny pictures of leaders, and they usually were making jokes about them. This is how they are similar. And once again, this is not very efficient propaganda probably because it is more a cartoon for children rather than propaganda for adults. Although this is how it might work. It sends the message to small children and with time they think it is true, and believe it more that history books.
This piece of propaganda is rather effective. For one, it begins with a scary tone and shows us that the big bad wolf is attacking. It warns us of a coming danger (With an imaginary invasion map) and tries to assure us that the warmongering hitler isn’t going to stop because of a piece of paper. It assures use that we should support those that join the army (Instead of laughing at them like the younger pigs do) and if we want to support them buy war bonds (That’s literally what the older pig says).
ReplyDeleteNow since the idea of war is horrifying the cartoon tries to tone down the brutal happenings with cartoon logic. Explosions and bombs that would rip people to bits and spray blood all over the place is replaced with yelps and jokes. The fear inducing shrieking bombs are replaced with a bomb that just yells and does not explode. The flesh burning incendiary bomb is replaced with a bomb with a match. This is to lessen peoples fear of attacking during warfare as even people that might support the idea of an attack may feel uneasy at the pain they would be forced to inflict on others.
Another important facet of this cartoon is that it shows there is nothing to fear from a counter attack. If it showed the Pig Land (USA) taking heavy casualties from counter attacks then people would be very worried (and rightfully so). So instead it shows the pigs being able to deflect all the bullets and bomb with a variety of comic solutions. And the offences of nazi Germany being very limited.
One thing that’s somewhat ominous is the fact that it shows the USA being capable of taking down japan in one shot. This is very scary considering the war with japan was ending with the atomic bomb. This was probably done accidentally, but nevertheless is very ominous.
The cartoon concludes that if we all work together (And buy war bonds) we will blast hitler to hell.
