What does this video say about the 'obstacles' we face when perceiving a 'text' outside of our understanding?

For me it is not really music and I agree with one of the kids who said “what is that noise?” Kids are confused because it is something new for them. Kids when they see or hear something new they are confused and don’t know how to response. All people meeting something new will either hate it or love it. After some time they can change their minds. Some of the kids will make their opinion depending what their environment thinks. Kids want to be like parents so if parents like something then the kids will like too and if they don’t kids will not like it either. Kids are listening to something completely new, when they think about music they think about a lot of singing and childish music, and this is something that is not similar to anything or maybe as one of the kids said “it is like my dog”. When I see or hear something new and I don’t really understand that I am confused too, new things are hard to understand but at some point we either understand them or just move on because they are not important for us that much.
ReplyDeleteDubstep is not a type of genre that many people listen to, and probably a less known genre, especially for children. Children usually tend to listen to songs that the main part of the song, is the singing. In the song 'Bangarang' the amount of lyrics in the songs is much less than in the songs they tend to listen to. So because of this, it is hard for them to perceive the meaning of the songs because of the limited amount of words that are in the song. So age plays a big role, maybe even the biggest role, in understanding or perceiving a song.
ReplyDeleteI’m not a big fun of skrillex either but I think that for children it is even harder to understand it since it seems to be a random mix of sounds, one of the children said “sounds like my dog” or “the idea is to make noises”. They see that from a different perspective since they don’t simply know about many things. Skrillex can be associated with drinking, clubbing and drugs; children substituted the word “drugs” for “candies” for example. The environment that they are surrounded by also influences their way of understanding because music for them is mostly about lyrics, they are simply used to a different type of music. On the other hand it is impossible for us to see it like children since we can’t simply put away experiences that we have and affect our perception.
ReplyDeleteWe tend to automatically distrust new things until we can become familiar with them. Thus the kids dislike the music based around the fact that it’s new and that its radically different from what they knew before. It makes us uncomfortable, especially as children who have seen less of the world and have a narrower mind view.
ReplyDeleteGender has some minor effects on how we see things. Females are slightly more maternal and will accept maternal text better. The most important aspect of our understanding is what our past experiences where. Thus age is important as this allows for more experience.
This video is really interesting to see and explore. In this video children are really confused with the song. While teenagers or adults when listening to that kind of music not paying to much attention to words, children, as all the details are really important to understand what is happening in the world do. So, the main point for adults of such songs is to hear weired noised and get CRAZY. Eating drugs or getting drunk.
ReplyDeleteThe children nowadays are not the same as we or our parents were. Now, kids prefer to listen to KESHA or LaDy GaGa instead of simple child songs.
Skrillex is a big group today. Something i liked in the video was how the kids viewed this group and even the genre of dubstep. I feel the same way as the kids do. What is this noise? but the difference between the kids and i is that i know dubstep for a long time but the kids are new to it. When you hear something new that is "outside" our knowledge we tend to be judgmental, we can either hate it or love and sometimes we can either grow to hate it more or like it more. I think some of the kids will enjoy dubstep like i did. I dont like it so much but i like it much more since i first heard it. We will always face obstacles hearing and seeing things for first time but its about what we think of it and how it will affect us. I loved this video so much beacause it was so cool to see how the kids reacted to the music for the first time, its always to fun to see how people react to new things good or bad. I do hope the kids dont listen to dubstep, i would rather them listen to simple loving songs. Dupstep is crazy!! But if you like something than go with it

ReplyDeleteUsually if something is outside of our understanding, we try to pretend we are a person who is understanding that thing which we don't. This might be helpful in some cases, but often we have no idea how to percept something what others understand and you do not. If this happens then you have nothing else to do than change your life, because if kids don't understand what dubstep is then they must grow up. This will be connected with complete life change. And if you know someone who is a druggie, you won't be able to understand him until you become one, because almost everything he/she percepts is different from what you percept. Some things are just hard to understand for someone, and even you are the kind of person who thinks that can understand everyone, you actually don't understand no one.
This video shows that when we perceive a text outside of our understanding we face some challenges to recognize what has been said. At first we analyze it, but then we compare it to what we already know. We get the understanding of the text based on our personal knowledge. Thus, people who are different ages or genres get different understanding because they have different knowledge and experiences. For that reason people often misunderstand each other and accept different things compare to what has been expressed.
ReplyDeleteAt different age we have different attitude to things and our understanding of them. When we are kids we see thing in the light colors, the reason of that can be our ignorance. We get to know the world and the life in it within the years. We get an experience and change. When we change, our views change.
ReplyDeleteIn this video we see the attitude of kids to the typical party with alcohol and clubbing music. They just didn’t know what dup step is, for example. Children didn’t understand the sense of that party, because they had never visited one. They aren’t aware what was that, they could hear of such music from their parents. That’s it. What I mean is that our views are based on the surroundings we have and our own experience.
